Have you ever been involved in an accident? Being in a car accident can leave you stressed and in deep shock. The injuries affect your everyday life, making activities such as driving, working, turning the neck, and even sleeping quite difficult. In NSW, CTP insurance supports individuals who have been injured in such accidents and provides access to physiotherapy as part of the treatment process. Recovery after an accident involves utilizing a holistic approach. At Procure Physio, we focus on providing physiotherapy for CTP patients that helps reduce pain, restore confidence, and help you get back to your normal life.
What Is CTP Physiotherapy?
First things first, let’s understand what CTP physiotherapy is. If you’ve been hurt in a motor vehicle accident in NSW, you may be entitled to CTP insurer-funded physiotherapy sessions. Once you gain approval from your insurer, you need not stress about the treatment cost.
CTP Physiotherapy covers injuries, including:
- Whiplash and neck pain
- Back and shoulder injuries
- Joint stiffness or reduced mobility
- Soft tissue injuries and sprains
- Posture and movement problems caused by the accident
The focus is on healing safely and steadily—with a plan tailored to your unique needs.
How Does the CTP Process Work?
- Inform the Insurer – Notify your insurer about the accident immediately after you’ve been involved in any motor vehicle accident. They will provide you with some documents to be filled in by you and your GP.
- Visit your GP – Soon after, visit your GP, who will assess your injuries, lodge the CTP claim, and refer you for physiotherapy if needed. This appointment should be done no later than 28 days from the accident.
- Begin your physio sessions – You can start with your physiotherapy treatment after you gain approval from the insurer. However, you have two pre-approved sessions under CTP insurance once your GP approves you for physio sessions.
- Receive Claim Number – Once your insurer provides you with a claim number, your physio can apply for approvals for more physiotherapy sessions under CTP claims.
- Check-ins and progress reports – As you progress in your physiotherapy journey, your physio will keep sending updates and progress reports to the GP and insurer.
Depending on the injury, recovery may take weeks or months.
How Physiotherapy Helps in CTP Recovery
Injuries from MVA (motor vehicle accidents) can last longer if not treated on time. One can experience some symptoms immediately after the accident. However, a few pains and symptoms can start surfacing after a few days of accident, too. These might cause stiffness, weakness, and mobility issues. This is where physiotherapy can make a real difference.
With a structured program, CTP patients can:
- Ease pain with manual therapy and a tailored exercise program
- Improve movement and flexibility
- Regain muscle and joint strength
- Build confidence to return to daily activities safely
- Manage the stress that often comes with such accidents
How to Treat Whiplash after an accident
Experiencing whiplash after a motor vehicle accident is the most common symptom seen in patients. Whiplash not only results in pain but also restricts neck movement, resulting in limited mobility. Expert physiotherapists at Procure Physio provide treatment for whiplash injuries (link to whiplash blog) and whiplash neck sprains to patients in Toongabbie, Blacktown, and neighboring suburbs.
What to Expect at Procure Physio

Every patient has their own unique journey, and thus our physios design a tailored treatment plan suiting your pain levels, lifestyle, and goals.
Your treatment may include:

- Updating your GP and insurer by sending timely progress reports
Do I Have to Pay for Physiotherapy Sessions?
If the physiotherapy sessions are covered by your CTP claims, you do not have to pay for the physiotherapy sessions once approved by your insurer. You must provide the claim number, your insurer details, and a GP referral letter for physiotherapy when booking your appointment.
If you have questions about the process, you can always contact Procure Physio, and we will be able to assist you with these.
