Finding My Voice: A Journey Through Endometriosis (Part 2)
10 month on Visanne ( my magic pill) everything was going really well , apart from some mood swings, muscle aches , brain fog.
We had medical emergency in family, I lost track of my medication as I was the carer,. Initial eight to nine months, it felt so good being off my medication. I felt I got my natural self back- full of energy, pain free periods, brain with clarity.
Based on my recovery I was discharged from the specialist i was seeing at that time.
However it didn’t last long. This time, the pain with bowel motion was way more intense and regular with every motion – didn’t had to wait for periods.
What I did different was I researched and chose a specialist wisely. I found someone who acknowledged all my sufferings of last 14 years.
Again I was referred for DIE scan – which was pretty messed up – lot of fluid in pelvic region, endometrial adhesions plus adenomyosis.
I was offered surgery or trial of conservative management with regular monitoring, DIE scans.I was so close to getting surgery, a month before scheduled surgery my scans got much better. Visanne started working again – my ultrasound findings improved, and my symptoms got better.
My surgery is on hold now, I have 6 monthly reviews with regular DIE scans to make sure there is no progression in adhesions. Hopefully I will get through my menopause without a need for hysterectomy.
Trust me I do have to deal with brain fogs, aches and pains , fatigue every day… what keeps me going is my willpower to l let endometriosis take control of my life.
Best thing happened during this journey was me upskilling myself as a women health physio.
I felt the void and need to create awareness in society.
It’s not easy to navigate endometriosis on your own – from getting diagnosis and having a pain free lifestyle.
Whole point of sharing my story is to understand:
-yes, it’s difficult to get diagnosis, but it’s important to speak up for yourself.
– get the right team players on your side
- GP
- specialist
- women health physio
- psychologist
Most important is to find a specialist who listens to you and gives you time based on complexity Physio who can help you to get relief from your pelvic pain.
Find a psychologist who can give you the tools to manage with mental fatigue, overwhelm and anxiety, which comes as a package deal of endometriosis.
If you relate with my journey, reach out to me. Its my purpose to support women by sharing my experience and knowledge that I have gained through all these years of physio practice and being a patient too.
