Hello to all who’ve journeyed with me and to those who are new to our community! If you’ve worked with me before, you know my mantra about “freedom in movement.” A key part of this is connecting to your center, a phrase you’ll often hear in our sessions. But what does this really mean?
Start Your Journey to Core Understanding
For those new to this concept, consider this an engaging introduction to core stability. And for my regulars, let’s take this as a refreshing course on what we’ve covered before.
Diving Into Core Muscle Anatomy
Let’s simplify the complexity of core muscles. Just like a stable foundation is crucial for building construction, a strong and stable core is essential for quality movement in our daily activities. This includes everything from walking and running to lifting and more. We’re talking about core muscles, pelvic floor, 360-degree breathing, and hip muscles – all working in unison.
Visualizing Your Core: The Canister Model
Imagine your abdomen as a canister. The base of this canister is your pelvic floor, the lid is your diaphragm, and the walls are your core muscles:
- The outer layer at front includes your ‘six-pack’ muscles, spanning your chest to pelvis.
- Beneath these lie your oblique muscles – external and internal
- The deepest layer is your transverse abdominis.
All these muscles connect at the center through fascia, forming a stable core.
Our approach emphasizes stabilizing these deep core muscles. It’s not about full force but about optimal recruitment – around 30% of maximum contraction. This includes coordinating with your diaphragm, pelvic floor, and other muscle groups for a balanced core.
Rehabilitation Program: Step by Step guide
Our rehab program starts with simple pelvic tilts, progressing to more advanced exercises. Being passionate about women’s health and pelvic floor, I delve into teaching how to activate these muscles effectively. The goal is to work towards core activation while keeping a stable pelvis.
I understand the challenges, which is why I’m here to guide you through this journey. It’s about striking the right balance between simplicity and challenge – all tailored to your needs.
